Pacific Ocean Perch : Add Some “POP” To Your Menu With This Alaskan Rockfish

Rated a “Best Choice” by the Monterey Bay Aquarium’s Seafood Watch program, Pacific Ocean Perch from the Gulf of Alaska is a great choice for anyone that loves rockfish.

Why? Because despite its name, it is in fact a rockfish – something you can quickly see when encountering it whole at a market.

After sustainable fishing practices were put in place and foreign vessels, which once dominated the fishery, were prohibited—the once-depleted fishery recovered from overfishing.

Improved management, an excellent observer program, and perhaps higher productivity in Alaska have allowed the stock to recover to a level which can allow about 26,000 tons of catch per year.

Kitchen Notes:

Lean and firm flesh, with a delicate nutty flavor.
